The CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) already obliges large companies and certain smaller business entities to comprehensively report on their sustainability impacts, including environment, social responsibility and governance (ESG).
The directive extends the reporting obligations to the entire value chain, which means that subcontractors and partners, such as hotels, transport companies and service providers, must also provide transparent information about their operations.
The training obligation applies to all companies, as all personnel must understand how sustainability can be implemented and reported in practice. In the travel industry, this affects, for example, the emphasis on energy efficiency solutions, emission reductions and responsible operating models, as well as even closer cooperation within the value chain.

ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards) tells how the CSRD directive is obtained and defines the exact standards according to which companies must report on their sustainability impacts.
The CSRD creates the reporting obligation, while the ESRS defines what information and how it must be presented when reporting. In the tourism industry, such as hotels, transport companies and travel agencies, this means detailed data collection and reporting on, for example, energy efficiency, emissions and value chain responsibility.
ESRS affects the entire value chain, as the main companies need accurate, standardized information from subcontractors and partners, which can increase the pressure to develop responsibility processes and data collection systems.

- European Sustainability Reporting Standards
- EU have 12 ESRS standards:
> Two of them are break through standards valid to all companies
> Ten standards are divided to cover environmental responsibility, social responsibility and good governance - Based on CSRD requirements, models from ESG and GRI
- Materiality analyses (incl. Double Materiality analysis) are core tools
- ESRS can give travel&tourism business major advantages!

- The CSRD is a European directive that requires eligible companies to issue annual sustainability reports. The ESRS, by comparison, outlines how and what information and ESG metrics companies need to report to European regulators to comply with the CSRD. That’s the key difference.
- The regulation summarizes the principles and content of the ESRS standards. Attached is a concise list of things:
> Information according to ESRS standards is published annually as part of the
board’s annual report, i.e. at the same time as financial information.
> Information and sustainability guidelines are divided into the short (financial year),
medium (less than five years) and long term (more than five years).
